This Datsan was famous for studying and practicing traditional Tibetan medicine. Aghvan Dorzhiev, teacher and advisor of the 13th Dalai Lama, used to work here. In 1891, the future Russian emperor Nicolas II visited this Datsan during his journey through Siberia.

All year round, we offer various tour programs to the Zabaikalsky National Park, Barguzin, Jirga, and Baikalsky Nature Reserves, the Barguzin Valley and the Selenga Delta.

We arrange guided tours to one of the most interesting and popular destinations in Buryatia – Ivolga Datsan. Founded in 1946, in spite of Stalin’s atheist policy, it became the center of Buddhism in Russia. Today, it is also home to a phenomenon that intrigues scientists and attracts believers by the thousands — the well-preserved body of Khambo Lama Itigilov who died in 1927. In 2002, his body was exhumed and showed virtually no signs of decay. It is still sitting upright in the lotus position.

An ethnographical tour to the Old Believers village a visit to the Old Believers church and local community museum. You’ll try traditional Old Believers food and enjoy a folk performance – all prepared by a local family.

This excursion highlights the three-and-a-half-century history of this city – its development from a small Cossack fortress on the banks of the Uda River to a prominent merchant town on the Great Tea Road to a capital of an ethnic minority region of Russia. We’ll explore the streets of the Old Town lined with centuries-old traditional Siberian houses, see the Merchant Quarter, and visit a Buddhist temple – the Rinpoche Bagsha Temple situated on the top of a hill with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city, its rivers, and surrounding landscape.
